Lord Bekins, The Prime Mover

The materialists of the Purification were troubled by the problem of initial causation. They believed matter was self-regenerating and the only unanswered question was what got the Whole Thing started in the first place? Wilson dispensed with this problem by devising a Prime Mover, a provider of universal momentum and not much else. Lord Bekins, the Prime Mover, does not intervene in Creation. Francis Brabazon scoffed at Christianity by observing, "Imagine going to the trouble of creating all this and only visiting once." Lord Bekins never visits at all. It has nothing to do with divine love, grace or the soul. Wilson's prime mover is an intellectual answer to an intellectual problem. It denies God as the source of love and denies the personal connection between God and the individual human being.
